A simple way to add related products to your WooCommerce customer emails

Cross selling is an important feature in every professional WooCommerce store. Just add some related products to your items to increase your sales.

With WP HTML Mail WooCommerce 2.0 I added the MailBuilder feature to  customize the content of all store emails.

Each notification message consists of multiple content elements now. One of these new content element is the “Related Products” element.add-content

There’s a button at the end of the MailBuilder to add new blocks of content.

  • Click this button
  • Choose “Related Products
  • Select a data source for the related products (either cross selling products from product setting or just newest item or a few random products)
  • and customize the columns as you already did with your products table.

Customizing WooCommerce Email Content

To customize the look and feel of WooCommerce mails you can use the WP HTML mail WooCommerce Extension. Without writing a single line of code you can customize colors, fonts, images …

UPDATE: WP HTML Mail for WooCommerce can customize all of your WooCommerce email text, images and product table and add even more content.

If you want to change the content, for example the text you can still override the template files.

Create WooCommerce template folder

Create a folder inside your theme or child theme your-theme/woocommerce/emails/ .

Copy WooCommerce email templates

Normally you’d copy files from the woocommerce plugin template folder, but if you use the WP HTML mail plugin you should copy the templates from plugins-folder/wp-html-mail-woocommerce/views/woocommerce/template .

I removed some inline styles from the original templates to make them more customizable.

Add custom placeholder to WP eCommerce Emails

If you need to customize your WP eCommerce mails you should have a look at the free WordPress plugin WP eCommerce Shop Styling. This plugins offers many placeholders for any type of dynamic values out of the box.

  • Shipping data
  • Payment details
  • Purchase date
  • Prices
  • Any kind of customer details
  • Individual checkout fields
  • Tracking ID
  • Tax

If you need to add your own placeholder try the new filters in version 2.7.

Order Easy Digital Downloads by Menu Order

The Easy Digital Downloads [ downloads ] shortcode offers serveral order possibilities by default.

  • price
  • id
  • random
  • post_date
  • title

If you need to order your downloads manually it’s a little bit more tricky.

Sort EDD Downloads

To order the downloads in the backend I use the plugin CMS tree page view.

  • Enable sorting of downloads in Settings -> CMS tree page view
  • Go to Downloads -> Tree view
  • Drag & Drop Downloads to the preferred order

WooCommerce show only lowest shipping rate

woocommerce shippingIf you create rules for WooCommerce shipping costs, you’ll often end up with situations where customers can choose either paying $5.00 or $10.00 for shipping.

You can still hope some clients will choose to pay the higher rate, but in most situation the choice is useless.

There’s a code snippet available at WooCommerce documentation to hide other shipping options when free shipping is available.
